The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) held a budget briefing with Congressman Marcelino Teodoro, Representative of Marikina’s First District, to present the respective proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026. This engagement forms part of the national budget process, where agencies coordinate with the House of Representatives to ensure their programs and priorities are adequately supported.
In the discussion, DDB Chairperson – Secretary Oscar Valenzuela emphasized that the proposed budget is crucial to sustaining the implementation of the Enhanced Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy (E-PADS), the government’s comprehensive framework for addressing the drug problem. Anchored on public health and human rights, E-PADS promotes a balanced and evidence-based approach built on supply reduction, drug demand reduction, and health, social, and developmental services. These pillars work together to integrate prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, reintegration, law enforcement support, and alternative development into one coherent national strategy.
More than supporting the Board in its mandate, the resources will also sustain the essential functions of the DDB Secretariat in delivering public service to various stakeholders. This includes providing legal services, undertaking policy studies, research, data collection and analysis, and developing evidence-based strategies. Equally important is the implementation of preventive education, training, and information programs that empower communities and institutions to take an active role in the collective advocacy on drug abuse prevention and control.
Through this partnership with Congressman Marcelino Teodoro as the DDB’s budget sponsor, the Board reaffirms its commitment to transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, as it moves forward in advancing a humane, balanced, and sustainable national drug strategy in pursuit of a healthier, safer, and more resilient Philippines.
