The 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters (AMMD) which was convened in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic has concluded. Dangerous Drugs Board Chaiman Catalino S. Cuy, and the Philippine Delegation marked the successful attendance to the high-level gathering which discussed specific, timely, and relevant anti-drug matters such as the Joint ASEAN Statement at the High-Level Segment of the 67th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in 2024 and the Final Review of the ASEAN Work Plan on Securing Communities Against Illicit Drugs 2016-2025.
The final review of the Work Plan is a crucial step as the Philippines takes its role as the Chair of the ASEAN Senior Official on Drug Matters next year and the AMMD in 2025. This is the governing document on drug abuse prevention and control which ASEAN states will pursue in their domestic settings.
Following the acceptance of Chairmanship of the ASOD and AMMD which will be convened in Manila, pre-sessions and pre-conventions will be conducted to discuss this important concern.
