The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) provided the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs with a comprehensive briefing on its programs, operational needs, and policy recommendations during the courtesy meeting with Committee Chairperson – Congressman Mark Anthony Santos of the Lone District of Las Piñas City.
The DDB’s top management, led by Chairperson – Secretary Oscar Valenzuela together with Executive Director – Undersecretary Earl Saavedra and Deputy Executive Director for Operations – Assistant Secretary Ferdaussi Masnar, and key officers from the operating units, highlighted the agency’s continuing efforts to improve the country’s response to the drug problem through evidence-informed prevention programs, accessible treatment and rehabilitation services, and strengthened community-based interventions. The DDB also presented the operational challenges and the resources needed to sustain and expand these efforts.
Among the key areas discussed were the status and requirements of government-operated and accredited rehabilitation centers, including the establishment of additional treatment facilities through clear technical guidelines and support mechanisms. The Board likewise presented policy and remedial legislative recommendations to address existing gaps and further enhance the delivery of services for individuals, families, and communities affected by the drug problem.
The briefing provided the Committee with a deeper understanding of the DDB’s mandate and the legislative support needed to translate policy priorities into programs that reach communities nationwide.
