Important matters were discussed during the Dangerous Drugs Board workshop on the Guidelines on the Use and Implementation of the Early Warning System (EWS) in the Philippines.
EWS is a formal and institutional network of monitoring, evidence-gathering, and information-sharing over non-controlled substances, though they are yet to be classified as either dangerous drugs, controlled precursors, or essential chemicals. It serves as a starting point for the facilitation of assessments of risks posed by the emerging psychoactive substances and for the collection and exchange of information between stakeholders to guide effective control responses.
The two-day workshop covers the discussion on the finalization of the EWS guidelines, presentation of the New Psychoactive Substances, and drafting of a new Board Regulation.
