As employees spend a considerable part of their daily lives at work, workplace environments can influence health, behavior, and overall well-being. In fast-paced industries such as the Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) sector, conversations on employee welfare, workplace support systems, and prevention continue to become increasingly relevant.

Recognizing this, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), through its Preventive Education, Training and Information Division (PETID), partnered with the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) for the conduct of the Online Drug-Free Workplace Program, which gathered industry stakeholders in a discussion on workplace-based prevention initiatives and employee well-being.

The activity drew from the broader direction of Republic Act No. 9165 and current data on patterns of drug use across occupational groups, including clerical and contact center-related work. Rather than approaching workplace prevention solely from a compliance perspective, the discussions highlighted the role of organizational culture, awareness, and support systems in promoting healthier work environments. The activity likewise underscored the importance of translating workplace policies into practical and sustained initiatives integrated into everyday organizational practices.

In his message, DDB Deputy Executive Director for Operations Assistant – Secretary Ferdaussi Masnar emphasized that policies become meaningful when translated into everyday practices that protect people, strengthen accountability, and encourage shared responsibility within institutions. He further noted that workplace-based prevention initiatives contribute not only to employee welfare, but also to healthier and more supportive professional environments across industries.

The program also explored the effects of dangerous drugs on health and behavior, the legal framework on drug-free workplace policies, and practical approaches that organizations may adopt in sustaining supportive and productive workplaces.
