The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) turned over ₱10 million in financial assistance to the Department of Health–San Fernando La Union Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-SFLU TRC) to support the expansion of the Female Dormitory Building, contributing to the continued development of gender-responsive rehabilitation facilities.

The project will increase residential accommodation for female clients while upgrading facilities that support their treatment and recovery. Located in Parian, City of San Fernando, the DOH-SFLU TRC provides comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals recovering from substance use disorders.

Leading the turnover, DDB Deputy Executive Director for Administration Assistant Secretary Ma. Victoria Sorne formally handed over the ₱10 million financial assistance for the implementation of the project. Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Jomar Tiniza welcomed the initiative, recognizing that the Board’s support will contribute to the Center’s continuing facility development. Chief Health Program Officer Dr. Brendell Fabia likewise affirmed that the project would be implemented responsibly to ensure that the expanded dormitory delivers lasting benefits for the women who will be served by the facility.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the DDB and DOH-SFLU TRC to discuss policy matters related to rehabilitation services, including rehabilitation and reformation frameworks that support evidence-informed treatment approaches. The discussions were followed by a tour of the Center’s facilities and the proposed project site.

The project reflects the growing importance of ensuring that rehabilitation facilities are equipped to meet the distinct needs of women throughout the recovery process.
