In celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT), the Dangerous Drugs Board, in collaboration with national and local government agencies, conducted the Colloquium with Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (ADAC)—a platform for coordination, knowledge sharing, and strengthening community-based drug prevention efforts.
The program began with the DDB’s presentation of the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy (PADS), emphasizing a balanced, evidence-based, and whole-of-nation approach to drug prevention and control. This strategic overview was followed by an in-depth presentation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on the Status of the Philippine Illegal Drug Problem, providing participants with critical insights on prevailing trends, enforcement efforts, and emerging concerns.
To highlight the role of local governments in advancing the national agenda, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) presented the best practices of local government units in Ilocos Norte, particularly in the implementation of anti-illegal drug initiatives and community-based drug rehabilitation programs. These examples demonstrated the value of innovation, consistency, and cross-sectoral collaboration at the local level.
An open forum concluded the colloquium, providing a venue for dialogue on issues surrounding program implementation, especially on community-based drug rehabilitation. The exchange of questions and insights among participants further enriched the discussions and emphasized the importance of sustained inter-agency coordination.
The colloquium underscored the shared responsibility of all sectors in advancing inclusive, strategic, and community-driven solutions to the nation’s drug problem.
