The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) works through several standing committees, each focusing on specific aspects of the national anti-illegal drug strategy, as formalized through the DDB Resolution No. 8, Series of 2018. Among these is the Drug Demand Reduction Committee (DRC), which is composed of key government agencies such as the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Commission on Higher Education, and National Youth Commission. The committee supports efforts to advance preventive education, promote community-based initiatives, and improve coordination of demand reduction responses across sectors.
In its most recent meeting, the DRC explored ways to strengthen ongoing interventions aimed at reducing the demand for illegal drugs. Central to their discussions were initiatives to reinforce preventive drug education in schools, expand community-based programs for youth, and enhance the effectiveness of local anti-drug abuse councils. The DRC also underscored the importance of cohesive policy frameworks, unified communication strategy on the advocacy, and strong collaboration with stakeholders to sustain and scale up drug demand reduction efforts nationwide.
