As the Chair of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Drug Matters (ASOD), the Philippines through Dangerous Drugs Board Executive Director-Undersecretary Earl Saavedra, took part at the 25th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (25th SOMTC) in Malaysia. The meeting served as a critical platform for ASEAN Member States to engage in strategic discussions and strengthen collaborative efforts in addressing the region’s persistent and emerging transnational crime challenges.
In his report, Undersecretary Saavedra highlighted prevailing trends in the regional drug landscape and shared ongoing initiatives under international cooperation aimed at tackling emerging drug-related issues. He underscored the importance of a united regional response and sustained inter-agency and cross-border collaboration in countering these evolving threats.
The 25th SOMTC reaffirmed ASEAN’s resolve to pursue a united and coordinated front against transnational crime, recognizing that a safer, drug-resilient region is key to achieving long-term regional peace, stability, and sustainable development.
