Affirming its commitment to global cooperation, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), through Executive Director Undersecretary Earl P. Saavedra, joined international counterparts in the International Narcotics Control Board’s (INCB) Global Rapid Interdiction of Dangerous Substances (GRIDS) Programme. This undertaking strengthens intelligence-sharing and interdiction strategies against emerging drug threats, contributing to ongoing efforts to safeguard communities and support collective international action.
The engagement focused on how synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances continue to evolve, both in form and in the ways they are trafficked. For the Philippine government, this provided a clearer view of how these developments unfold across borders and how they may surface in the local setting.
Representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Customs (BOC), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Postal Corporation (PPC), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) participated alongside international partners. The exchanges enabled agencies to compare approaches and gain a more grounded understanding of emerging drug threats.
Discussions combined strategic dialogue with practical learning, focusing on detection, risk assessment, and interdiction approaches. Participants examined current concealment methods and evolving trafficking patterns, allowing them to situate global trends within real-world contexts and draw insights relevant to ongoing efforts in the country.
International partners, including the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), shared best practices in preventing the trafficking of dangerous substances. These were complemented by inputs from Philippine government agencies, including recent cases and operational insights, linking global developments with the local enforcement landscape.
