The messages shared during the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) 2026 Mural Painting Contest will extend beyond the day’s competition, with the completed artworks becoming lasting visual reminders of prevention within the Department of Health Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-TRC) Region II in Ilagan City, Isabela.
Students from participating schools across Region II translated their perspectives into large-scale murals inspired by themes of informed choices, hope, resilience, and collective action. Through visual storytelling, each artwork offered a distinct perspective on how individuals, families, schools, and communities contribute to fostering safe and healthier environments where young people can thrive.
Conducted through the collaboration of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), the DOH-TRC Region II, and partner institutions, the competition encouraged participants to communicate prevention messages through creative expression while highlighting the role of young people as advocates for positive change within their communities.
Now displayed within the walls of the treatment and rehabilitation center, the completed murals now form part of the facility’s environment, offering patients, visitors, personnel, and members of the community visual reminders of the value of making informed choices. In this way, the artworks continue the conversations on prevention long after the competition has concluded.
The DDB extends its congratulations to this year’s winners for their outstanding creativity and thoughtful interpretation of the contest’s objectives. The Board likewise expresses its appreciation to all participating schools, student artists, teachers, coaches, and partner institutions whose enthusiasm and commitment contributed to the success of the activity and the broader observance of IDADAIT 2026.
The Mural Painting Contest formed part of the country’s observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) 2026, which this year carries the global theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses.” The activity was among the series of initiatives conducted nationwide throughout June in support of this year’s observance.
