More than 2.2 metric tons of dangerous drugs valued at approximately ₱12.34 billion were destroyed through thermal decomposition by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at Integrated Waste Management Inc., marking the agency’s largest drug destruction activity so far this year.

Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Chairperson Secretary Oscar Valenzuela witnessed the activity as Guest of Honor and Speaker, together with PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., and representatives from government and law enforcement agencies, partner organizations, and the media.

Of the total volume, approximately 1.77 metric tons consisted of shabu valued at ₱12.06 billion, recovered from major interdiction operations in MIMAROPA and Valenzuela City. Marijuana, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, other dangerous drugs and substances, and assorted expired medicines were also included.

The destruction constitutes the final disposition of confiscated dangerous drugs after the completion of the required legal processes. It ensures that substances already taken out of illegal circulation are properly accounted for and can no longer be diverted or returned to the illicit market.

The participation of the DDB and other concerned institutions provides an additional layer of transparency, accountability, and inter-agency oversight in the handling and disposition of confiscated substances.

The volume destroyed reflects the continuing efforts of government to reduce the availability of illegal drugs and protect communities from the harms associated with their circulation.
