Over a Hundred Youth Learners gather for the 4th NBKDC

The 4th National Barkada Kontra Droga Convention provided young learners with an interactive and informative series of discussions.

Esteemed speakers Girlie Azurin and Gian Erik Adaw from the Bureau of Learner Support Services – School Health Division (BLSS-SHD) led engaging discussions on the No Smoking Campaign and Smoking Education.

Following this, Alyson Gimenez and Zoe Damag from the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) enlightened attendees on the crucial subject of Alcohol Education.

The youth actively participated in the sessions, voicing their concerns and opinions about the detrimental effects of smoking and alcohol consumption. They not only shared their perspectives but also put forth innovative preventive measures to inspire their peers to steer clear of such harmful vices.

Also discussed during the 4th NBKDC is Social and Emotional Learning, Child in Conflict with the Law, and Introduction to Sports.

Augil Marie Robles of the University of the Philippines – Visayas outlined in her session the importance of managing, regulating, and acknowledging emotions to deeply enhance the capacity of the youth participants on how to empathize with other people during hard times.

The program also delved into the intricate topic of Child in Conflict with the Law, focusing on juvenile justice in the Philippines, which was discussed by Camille Grace Cariaga of the Learner Rights and Protection Office of the Department of Education.

Division Sports Officer Nicasio Valenzuela of the School Division Office of the DepEd, introduced the benefits of involving youth into sports and building a healthier lifestyle.

During the 4th National Barkada Kontra Droga Convention 2024, Executive Director – Undersecretary Earl Saavedra of the Dangerous Drugs Board underscored in his keynote message the pivotal role of young people in becoming proactive agents of change by engaging with their local communities. He emphasized the importance of disseminating accurate information to combat drug abuse and promote prevention education effectively.
