Preventing drug abuse requires more than programs, it also calls for sustained leadership, cooperation, and a shared sense of responsibility across institutions that serve the public. This message was underscored by Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Permanent Member – Undersecretary Abad Osit during the opening of the workshop of the Technical Working Group on Drug Abuse Prevention Education (DAPE) Programs.
In his remarks, Undersecretary Osit emphasized that prevention remains one of the most meaningful ways to protect communities, particularly the youth, from the harmful effects of illegal drugs. He noted that the collective expertise of institutions working in health, social protection, education, labor, law enforcement, and local governance provides a strong foundation for building prevention efforts that are both responsive and sustainable.
Addressing fellow government partners and technical experts, he highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation among agencies contributing to the country’s preventive education efforts. Such collaboration allows institutions to draw from their respective experiences and perspectives in developing programs that better respond to the needs of communities.
These efforts help strengthen preventive education programs that equip communities, particularly the youth, with the knowledge, values, and life skills needed to make informed and healthy choices.
